A traditional Cuban Sandwich is packed with pork, ham, mustard, pickles and lots of cheese all aboard Cuban white bread. The origins of the Cuban aren’t exactly clear however one of the more popular theories revolves around Cuban cigar makers bringing the idea to the States when chasing work.
The filling has evolved from something like a plain ham and cheese with Tampa and Florida laying claim to how the sandwich stands at the moment. All we know is it tastes damn good! The Tampa version also features salami if you want to take it a step further.
ingredients
- Thick sliced white bread (Pane di Casa is good or a white French or Italian loaf)
- Pulled pork or pork collar
- Cheese slices
- Yellow mustard
- Deli ham slices
- Pickle slices
directions
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Flip the buttered bread over so it is facing down and add a layer of cheese to the unseasoned slice followed by mustard, the pork, a double layer of ham, pickles, another slice of cheese and finally the other slice of bread.
- Toast and enjoy your Cuban Sandwich!
Our favourite sandwich is the Reuben, packed with pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, pickles and a Russian style sauce. We’ve even taken things a step further with the Creuben which splices the best of both the Reuben and the Cuban.
